5. Writing For Emotional Impact- Karl Inglesias

What's it about?: Why do we watch movies? Short answer: to experience emotions. This book shows you how to create emotion in your stories.
Why you should read it: Successful stories create emotion. This book gives you creative techniques on how to make your audience FEEL throughout your movie/story. Read it. Read it now.

4. Save The Cat- Blake Snyder

What's it about?: The first in a series of screenwriting books, Save The Cat specializes in the structure of movies. It breaks down the beats to some of the most successful movies in history.
Why you should read it: There's a ton of controversy around this book due to the fact that people think they can read this book, then easily write an Oscar winning script the next day. With every screenwriting book you read, you have to take everything with a grain of salt. No book will turn you into a professional screenwriter, but this one will absolutely help with pacing and structure. Read it once, then put it away.

3. Tough Shit- Kevin Smith

What's it about?: A filmmaker who changed the game, Kevin Smith speaks about everything from his humble, lazy beginnings, to the hardships of working with Bruce Willis.
Why you should read it: Not for the faint of heart, Smith's raunchy style of writing is borderline offensive but doesn't skimp on the invaluable knowledge.

2. Linchpin: Are You Indispensable?- Seth Godin

What's it about?: The book that inspired my production company name, talks about the artist. The person who takes risks, who thrives to make the world better, and how to be the best version of yourself you can be. The linchpin is indispensable.
Why you should read it: Not only for filmmakers, but for entrepreneurs, and people who want to be a better at they what they love to do. For creatives, this is a must read.

1. Rebel Without A Crew- Robert Rodriguez

What's it about?: The book that convinced me to make a movie rather than go to film school, this book, formatted like a journal, documents the story of how Robert Rodriguez made a movie for $7,000. A movie that has grossed $2,040,920, since 2012.  You don't need a huge budget or name actors to make a good movie, and this book manifests that idea.
Why you should read it: The real gold is at the end in Rodriguez's "Ten Minute Film School". This book is a game changer.

There are a lot of benefits one can gain from actively participating in social causes through non-governmental or charity organizations.
